Hi Everyone!

For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Kevin Pakenham and I am more than delighted to introduce myself as your Vice-President for Education & Communications in AIT’s Student Union for the 2020/2021 academic year.

First of all, I would like to welcome all the new students to AIT as well as all returning students. I am looking forward to meeting and helping you all over the academic year. AIT is an amazing place with a sense of community in which you will excel as a person academically and socially within your time here! It is said that school is the best days of your life, but I beg to differ as I feel college days are the best days of your life!

I am 23 years old and I am originally from Oldcastle in Co. Meath. I have just recently finished studying a level 8 degree in Applied Social Studies in Social Care here at AIT in the last four years. Through these last four years I have learned so much not only around Social Care but about myself as a person and also about other people too! I have met so many people and have gained so many amazing friends and don’t worry you will too!

My role as Vice-President for Education & Communications will consist of working as a team alongside Áine (SU President) and Niall (SU DP/ VP for Welfare & Equality) and all other staff here at AITSU to help and represent all students of AIT.

I am responsible for all matters or queries in relation to education and communications for the Students Union on behalf of all students of AIT.

Some of these matters consist of:

  • Attending to any issues or conflict that may arise for students in their college course i.e. any conflict between students’ and lectures.

  • Issues in relation to exam fails, repeats or deferrals.

  • Coordinating all education campaigns

  • Being a student representative in the Academic council of AIT

  • The recruitment and management of class representatives for all college courses and providing training for them.

  • Assisting all students with all queries with SUSI grants & college fees.

Once again, I look forward to seeing you all! Don’t be afraid to drop into us to say hello or have a chat! We can help you with any issues you have as our doors are always opened!

Although the year ahead may be challenging under the certain circumstances, I hope you all have a fun and exciting year!

Remember, Don’t be afraid to push yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you!

Best of luck!

Kevin Pakenham
