Hi Guys,

My name is Áine Daly and I am your Students Union President for this coming year.

First of all, I’d like to welcome everyone to the Athlone I.T. community. I’m looking forward to meeting you all throughout the year, so don’t be afraid to say hello or to pop over to the SU for a chat!

Your Students Union is located beside the MPH in the John Count McCormack building. This is your space to relax, talk to friends, or have a game of pool, watch documentaries or play a good aul game of FIFA. You’ll also get to attend the events we run in the SU, this year will be different with COVID restrictions however, your student experience is at the forefront of our agenda, more than ever it’s important to follow our Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook pages for news and updates!

I am originally from Claremorris in Co Mayo and I studied Social Care Practice here in AIT for four years, in those years I became involved with the SU through our mental health society Please Talk AIT holding the roles of PRO and Chairperson the following year. From there I went on to serve a sabbatical year as Vice-President for Welfare and Accommodation, then I was elected President and I’m now returning for one final year as President.

The President is the principal spokesperson of the Students Union, I also act as team leader and I’m responsible for administrating the Union on a daily basis. Throughout the year the other members of the SU team and I will sit on several committees and boards within the college to ensure your voice is heard. Representation is our key interest, so if you have any ideas for improvement or change in the college please let us know!

We’re always open to suggestions, and we’re also here to help and support you with whatever challenges you may be facing during your journey through college. Our offices are a safe, confidential space where you can come talk to us at any stage of the year about anything at all.

Some advice I’d like to give you for your time in college is to soak in the whole college experience. These years can be the best years of your life, so join any societies or clubs that interest you and get involved in as many campaigns as you can. It’s a great way to meet new people, develop new skills and a nice break from college work!

One last thing I’d like to say fully immerse yourself in the community of AIT, which I have found to be a very welcoming inclusive environment and I hope you will too.

The Team are very excited to meet you all on your return and first visit on campus, so please do reach out we would love to hear from you and there are many ways to get involved in the Union this year. This year will be different from others but no doubt we will adapt and overcome and come out stronger than before, and as always any questions please do in contact.

All the Best,

Áine Daly
