Student Counselling Service
What is counselling?
Counselling is a specialist service provided by professionally trained counsellors. In a college context the counsellor is especially sensitive to the crises and difficulties students face at this point in their life-path.
The counsellor will listen to and encourage you to express your thoughts and feelings in your own way and at your own pace: to explore issues of concern and to discover/clarify ways of living more resourcefully in an environment that is safe, non-judgemental and confidential.
Who is counselling for?
Any problem or concern that impairs either your functioning as a student or your feeling of well-being, or both, is a valid reason to seek counselling. Some difficulties you will be able to deal with on your own, or with the help of friends or family. Sometimes, though, difficulties will feel overpowering or you may feel you're losing control over some aspect(s) of your life.
In those situations counselling may help lessen the distress and help you find ways of having more control or power over what is going on in your life.
