Reckonable Income Limits
The Maintenance Grant is a ‘means tested’ form of financial support. This means that in order to qualify, your annual household income must be within certain bands. Depending on what band you fall into (if any), you qualify for differing levels of support.
A calculation for your annual household income is always based on the previous year’s income and tax returns. So, for example, if you are applying in 2009, your statement of annual household income will be based on that of 2008.
The Reckonable Income Limits are, in general, adjusted annually by the Department of Education & Science. The announcement of the income bands for the forthcoming academic year is, in general, made in the summer after the Leaving Certificate examinations.
The table below shows the Reckonable Income Limits in order to qualify for the Maintenance Grant in 2008 – 2009. As you can see, there are many different levels.
