Athlone is a great town with lots to do throughout the year. Athlone is a safe town and students can feel at ease living here but students bewarned not to be blind to the dangers. Athlone is a student town with bars, discos and parties. Always watch your drink to make sure that it has not been spiked. Never take risks and know that a series of attacks have taken place in recent years and mostly in badly lit areas, where people were walking alone.

The Student Union will continue to work to get more lighting and cameras into student areas. If anything happens to you or your friends, please inform the Student Union and for any student interested, the Student Union sells low cost, effective personal alarms.
