In this section we will answer some of the most frequently asked questions and give you top tips on how to correctly fill in the Application Form.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I get the Application Form?
You get the Application Form from your Local Authority or Vocational Education Committee.
What’s included with the Application Form?
The Awarding Body will send you out a ‘pack’ which will include the following:
(i) Application Form
(ii) Accompanying Notes
(iii) Maintenance Grant Scheme Regulations
Can I apply online?
At present there is no facility for online application. You have to post your Application Form and the accompanying documentation to the Awarding Body.
Do I have to fill out every section?
No you do not. You only need to enter information in the sections that are relevant to you. So, if there is no ‘Rent and Other Income from Land and Property’, you do not need to enter details for Section 5. However, do not leave any section blank. If it does not apply, enter N/A into the boxes.
I don’t understand some of the questions/explanatory notes. Can I ask anyone?
Of course. You should contact the Grants section of your Awarding Body. Their details should be included with the ‘pack’ that you got. Alternatively, you can also contact the Union of Students in Ireland on education@usi.ie.
Can I submit photocopies of the documentation?
No, the documentation has to be the original except the evidence of nationality which can be the photocopy of your passport but it must be stamped by a Garda or a Commissioner of Oaths.
